Staff members enjoying the cool breeze at Sangalo Beech – Busia. A two day’s (9th – 10th June 2017) retreat that was organize to strengthen the bond among staff members, full of presentations focused on Leadership, Love, Creativity,Challenging Mind and Community Spirit among others for the development/improvement of services of Kumi University got hosted at The Rand Hotel situated in Busia Town. Other areas of focus towards a better future of KUMU were: – Cultivation of Creative people, Developing new managements systems, staff training/further duties, strengthening of 1+1 students recruitment drive and engagement of staff and student with University Website to improve KUMU’s ranking.

The retreat was full of fun as the participants got engaged with in a number of activities such as games, dance, tours, Bible quiz and gifts exhange. All participants promised never to miss the next retreat.

The office of the Vice chancellor invites applications from interested Students who meet the requirement to apply for the scholarship under the category of Academic Excellence.

This Scholarship targets academically sound students who have obtained high grades of A, B or C principles or (12 points) in their ‘A’ level of education and continuing University students who have a minimum of 4.O GPA from the previous semester are eligible for the award. The beneficiary receives a full scholarship (i.e, tuition fees and living functional fees for the overall winner per faculty) or half scholarships (i.e. tuition fees only) for the non overall winners.

Note: Any misrepresentation or omission of information will be grounds for withdrawal of the appointment offered or for termination of the appointment.

The interested students ca pick Application Forms and the Financial Aid Policy from the University Guild Canteen at you own cost. Completed application forms should be returned by individual applicants to the office of the Dean of Students before 18th/04/2017 at 5:00Pm prompt.

25% Scholarship is given to all new students and various categories given to Currently Existing Students at Kumi University as per Scholarship Policy

For the Certificate, SENATE has to make pronouncement on whether Certificate will run for two years as per NCHE communication to enable review the curriculum.

2017-2018 Semester one lectures to commence on the 21st of August 2017, after the orientation and registration of the freshers from 14th – 20th August and the arrival of the continuing students on 19th August 2017. Prof. Bashasha 6th last to the right, led a team of 9 professionals from Makerere University College of Agriculture to Kumi University from 11th – 12th August, 2017 to stream line the Agriculture course curriculum which is yet to kick start this year. We are so grateful to Makerere University staff, as we partner to unleash the best of quality service to our community, nation and the world as a whole.

Pioneer Agriculture Students to join Campus on Friday 8th Sept 2017, be Orientated on 9th & 10th, then commence their lectures on 11th Sept, 2017.

Freshers from other disciplines were inducted  into Campus system from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th. Its was done in preparation for the commencement of  lectures later on Monday 21th August, 2017.

Orientation, conducted every year, is one of the ways all new students are introduced to the policies/rules and regulations, environment, resources, life on campus and the entire system, just to mention but a few.

Kumi University was founded by Korean Missionary couple Hyeong Lyeol Lyu and Mrs. Minja Lee in 1999. It developed from Africa Leaders’ Training Institute (ALTI), which was established in 1996 to meet the demands of the local community.

The University Foundation was then approved by Ugandan Government in 2004 with document No. 66491. The University later acquired the operational License the same year with National Council For Higher Education NCHE (UI..PL..002 NCHE). The University was established:  To provide quality, affordable, community tailored, Christian based higher education.




Kumi University is established in the scenic country side of TESO’s spectacular inselbergs, next to the famous Old Stone Age Site Nyero Rock Paintings in Kumi District, Eastern part of Uganda.

The University is in the advanced stages of acquiring the civil charter from the government of Uganda. Once this

process is complete, the University will open its gates for higher degree programmes(Masters, PhD….). Currently,

the University runs three major study schedules for undergraduate programmes: External for in-service teachers, Week end for busy and/or employed executives, and Full time for direct entrants (O and A) level leavers.

2. An Online e-library platform which provides our students and staff variety of e-books from the world’s larges databases such as AGPRA, HINARI, Baobab, OARE, ADRI etc. To access online e-books, please visit our e-library platform here and follow the instructions.

To visit our offiline E-books repository, follow the steps below: –

1. Turn on your device’s WiFi receiver
2. Connect to RPI WiFi Hotspot
3. Open your web browser
4. Type 10.10.10.10 in your URL bar
5. Press Enter.

if you’re able to see RACHEL on your screen then you are done. You can now traverse Linked topics.
NOTE!

1. Any student or staff without a Laptop or tablet can sign for a tablet from the librarian then signs it back before he/she gets out.
2. No student or staff member is allowed to take the tablet outside the Library
3. The server can only be accessed from within the Main library for now

Management – E-resources

“Quality research for better communities” was the theme for 2017, with much emphasis directed toward problem statement formulation, Research topic formulation, Objectives, Justification and significance of the research, Literature review, Qualities of a good research, stages of research and citation of the research.

Explaining what research is, Mr. Mutya Tomasi (PHD Candidate), emphasized that  research is a Systematic, patient study and investigation in some field of knowledge undertaken to find out facts and principles about something or situation. among others, he also  hinted on the Qualities of  research he said which are: –

• Rigorous
• Controlled
• Systematic
• Valid and verifiable
• Empirical and
• Critical

Miss Gloria Angela Mukova (MSc).  – presented much of research topic problem formation which she practically guided the participants. in her presentation, she deepened on the importance of formulating a qualified research problem. Noted below are a guide to formulating a research problem:-

• First and most important step of a research process (destination before journey!)
• Absence of clear research problem – no clear and economical plan
• Research problem – foundation of a building
• Type and design of a building – foundation
• Strength of a building – foundation
• For one to solve a problem – must generally know what the problem is
• Have a clear idea of what exactly you want to find out about, not what you think you must find
• The way you formulate a research problem – determines all subsequent steps in the research journey
• NB: Make sure your idea is re-searchable

Miss Gloria also pointed  Questions, assumption and assertion to be the  three key areas that forms a problem. She then later  explained the four P’s that is: People, Problem, Programmes and Phenomena/occurrences as the sources of research problems.

Following the previous debate conducted on 7th March, 2018, at the faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Akwap hereby present key gender-related issues to be addressed if we are to achieve Goal number 5 of UN’s sustainable development goals 2030.
